A Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE) assesses an individual’s physical capacities and functional abilities to participate in work and activities of daily living in a safe and reliable manner. FCE’s are done on an intensive one-to-one basis.
FCE’s are used in the medical legal context to address current abilities and loss of ability in preparation for future care costs. The FCE is also imperative in disability cases to determine if the individual has the capacity to return to their own work and if not, what his or her work tolerances may be. The FCE can also be utilized for evaluating baseline physical activity tolerances prior to work rehabilitation or return to work.
Aurora Assessments performs a systematic and thorough qualitative and quantitative assessment which includes clinical observations, clinical reasoning, distraction-based testing, subjective questionnaires, real and/or simulated work activities (including lifting, carrying, reaching, dexterity and postural tolerances such as sitting, standing and walking), using consistency of effort measures and standardized tests with high reliability and validity.
